Drivers traveling around the Houston area this weekend should prepare for several major freeway closures and lane restrictions as construction crews continue work on some of the city’s busiest roadways.
According to Houston TranStar’s weekend construction schedule, closures are planned along the 610 South Loop, I-10, I-69 and several connecting ramps from Saturday, Oct. 24, through Monday, Oct. 26.
Some restrictions will last throughout the weekend, while others are scheduled only during overnight hours.
Here’s a breakdown of the major closures and how to get around them.
Drivers traveling westbound on the 610 South Loop will encounter a complete closure between Broadway Street and Telephone Road.
The northbound connector ramp from the 610 South Loop to I-45 Gulf Freeway will also be closed overnight.
Another closure begins Saturday evening at the westbound exit ramp to Broadway Street.
Several connector ramps along the East Freeway will be closed this weekend.
The eastbound connector from I-10 to I-610 North is scheduled to remain completely closed until early Monday morning.
The eastbound connector from I-10 to the 610 East Loop will also close overnight from 9 p.m. to 7 a.m. through Sunday morning.
Drivers can use the 610 North Loop U-turn at Wallisville Road to reach the southbound East Loop.
Additionally, the westbound I-10 connector to I-610 North is scheduled to close nightly from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. through Monday morning.
Drivers can continue westbound on I-10, take I-69 North and connect to I-610.
Drivers traveling northbound on I-69 through Sugar Land should also expect overnight disruptions.
The closure is part of scheduled bridge repair work in Fort Bend County.
Construction along the Katy Freeway will continue to affect traffic near downtown Houston.
Two outside westbound lanes between I-45/Hogan Street and Studemont Street remain closed as part of the ongoing White Oak Bayou elevation project and Studemont Street bridge demolition.
Drivers should also expect alternating lane and ramp closures in both directions between Heights Boulevard and I-45.
Additional overnight eastbound lane closures are scheduled between Studemont Street and I-45 through Monday morning.
Unlike the weekend-specific restrictions, some of these closures are part of longer-term construction projects and will remain in place beyond Monday.
Additional work is scheduled on other sections of I-610.
Two inside lanes of the eastbound North Loop frontage road between Airline Drive and I-45 North are scheduled to close from Saturday, Oct. 24, at 8 p.m. until Sunday, Oct. 25, at 3 p.m.
Drivers on the East Loop should also prepare for alternating lane closures near Wallisville Road and McCarty Street/US-90 Alternate, with work scheduled to continue through Monday morning.
Houston TranStar reminds drivers that construction schedules are subject to change because of weather, emergencies or other circumstances.
Motorists are encouraged to allow additional travel time, watch for construction signs and check current traffic conditions before heading out.
